The Lahire district (1970-1990)

An initial project was adopted in 1971, but following the 1977 revision of Paris urban planning documents, a new PAZ (zone development plan) was approved in 1981. The Lahire ZAC (mixed development zone) covering 12 hectares extends the urban development of the Nationale district.

The project covered the following :
- 1,584 social housing units,
- 281 privately-owned housing units,
- public amenities,
- 25,550 sq.m. in office space.

The chosen project is founded on more restrained urban planning, marked by reduced building heights and smoother integration of new constructions into the surrounding urban fabric.

Dating from 1977, the Rue des Hautes Formes housing project by Christian de Portzamparc marks the emergence of these new architectural and urban designs underpinned by greater respect for the existing urban grid and a bigger focus on the public space. Development of the Place Nationale in 1992 marked the completion of work to redevelop the Lahire ZAC. The central strip combines with the sculpture by Léonardo Delfino to give this district a distinctive scale and identity.
